On January 11th, 2020, Ashton Cockrell participated in the Shortgrass Honor Band in Elk City. This was a band made up of approximately 100 band students from all around western Oklahoma. Students were selected by audition in December of 2019.

Francis Avalee Henson 1939 – 2020

Francis Avalee Henson passed into eternity Monday, February 3, 2020 at the age of 80 years in Amarillo, Texas. Francis was born December 3, 1939 to her parents Frazier and Roberta (Richardson) Harman in Canadian, TX.

Francis was raised in Reydon, OK where she met Harry Henson. On July 7, 1957 she and Harry were married in Wheeler, TX. In 1969 they moved to Amarillo, TX. Francis loved working in her flower beds, even receiving awards for the prettiest beds in town. She also, along with her sister Gracie, were avid Elvis fans collecting all things Elvis. The Graceland tour and candle lighted vigil were very special and important to both girls. Many hours were spent watching basketball games with Larry Bird of the Boston Celtics and the Spurs. But most of all, Francis loved her family and friends dearly.

Surviving Francis in death include her 1 daughter: Valrie and husband Todd Ruggles of Amarillo, TX; 2 sons: Jerry and wife Cynda and Bobby and wife Kris Henson of Amarillo, TX; 1 sister: Sabra and husband Larry McGlothlin of Durham, OK, 1 brother: Danny and wife Karen Harman of Durham, OK, 6 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

Francis is preceded in death by her parents, husband Harry in 2002, 3 brothers and 1 sister. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Monday, February 10, 2020 at Rose Chapel, Sayre with Pastor Alberta Hartley-Helton officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday, February 9, 2020 from 1:00 PM ~ 5:00 PM at Rose Chapel, Sayre.

RMC Genealogy Meets at Library

Our Genealogy group met February 6, 2020 in the Cheyenne Library where Marilyn Wilson presided. Minutes and Treasurer’s reports were approved. The sales of the County Historical Map are very successful. A lady from California who was a member of the Plunkett family of Rankin-Reydon bought the latest map. Kaitlyn Savannah Porter 1997 ~ 2020

Kaitlyn “Katy” Savannah Porter, 22, of Reydon, Oklahoma was born on March 25, 1997 in Guymon. She is the beloved daughter of Joey James and Tina Denise (Keys) Porter. She passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2020 at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in Elk City with her loving family by her side. Katy grew up in Reydon, attending Reydon Schools, and was active in the FFA and 4-H, winning awards for showing swine and sheep. She participated in JRCA rodeos during her preteen years. She participated in the woodshop program at Reydon Schools and made many beautiful pieces of furniture, winning several awards.

After high school, Katy attended the Western Technology Center Elk City, studying phlebotomy and CNA. Katy enjoyed hunting, fishing, mudding, camping, music, photography, and drawing.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 8, 2020 at Reydon Community Building in Reydon. Interment will be in White Rose Cemetery in Reydon. Services have been entrusted to the care of Martin- Dugger Funeral Home in Elk City.

Cherishing her memory is her father, Joey Porter and wife Mindy; mother, Tina Keys and Joey York “Uncle Dad”; grandmothers, Diann “Nanny” Porter and Billie Boren; sisters, Jessi and Adalynn Porter; brothers, Andres, Keith, Thomas, Jordan, and Mark; aunts and uncles, Junior and Ashley Porter, Toby Keys and wife, Terry Keys and wife, Melissa and Mike Turpen, Michael Vaughn, Michelle Schmidt, Matt and Karen Matthews; numerous other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her grandfather, James “PaPa” Porter; grandparents, Dean and Karen Keys; great-grandparents, J.T. and Evelyn Porter; great-grandparents, Harvey and Marie Griffin; great-grandmother, “Granny” Critser.

Memorials can be made to Valley Hope of Oklahoma City in care of Martin-Dugger Funeral Home, P.O. Box 707, Elk City, Oklahoma 73648.
