On Thursday, January 9, 2020, Melba Ruth (Burns) Boswell, of Cheyenne, Oklahoma, transitioned from her earthly life of 88 years into her eternal life with her Heavenly Father. She departed the earthly bounds, peacefully in her sleep, in Edmond, Oklahoma with family members at her side. She was born on August 6, 1931 to John Wesley and Dolphie (Graham) Burns in their home near Strong City, Oklahoma.
Melba Ruth grew up in Roger Mills County, Oklahoma. She commenced her education at the Strong City Elementary School and graduated from Hammon High School in 1949.
Melba Ruth married her loving husband of 63 years, Eldon Yates Boswell, on August 19, 1952 and to this union they were blessed with two sons. Soon after their union, they moved to Oregon where she was an employee of the First State Bank in Milwaukie. After nine years in Oregon, they seized an opportunity to return to Roger Mills County and operate a dairy business. Later in life and until her retirement, she was an employee of the Security State Bank in Cheyenne.
At a young age, Melba Ruth accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior. She was a beautiful, kind, loving, compassionate, Christian woman, who devoted herself to her family, friends and Godly service. She was deeply loved by her family and friends and admired as a role model by those aspiring to follow in her footsteps. She had a fond love of music and was the organist for Cheyenne’s First Baptist Church.
During the final chapter of her life, she was blessed with friendship and dedicated care giving from Nancy Allen and Ruby McBrayer.
Cherishing her memory are her two sons, Mark Boswell and wife, Debbie of Cheyenne, Oklahoma, and J. T. Boswell and wife, Lisa of Edmond, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Tara Denney and her husband Monty of Cheyenne, Oklahoma, Trevor Boswell of Grimes, Oklahoma, Donald Leach and his wife, Randi of Erick, Oklahoma, Taylor Aizenman and her husband, David of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Morgan Jones and her husband, Taylor of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; nine great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and a host of friends and relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and one daughter-in-law, Kim Boswell, two brothers, Melvin Burns and Raymond Burns, and two sisters, Hazel Burns and Lois Kepley.
Funeral services were held at Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at First Baptist Church in Cheyenne, Oklahoma. Interment followed at Strong City Cemetery in Strong City, Oklahoma. Services have been entrusted to the care of Martin-Dugger Funeral Home in Elk City, Oklahoma.
