Teens and Prescription Medicine Abuse

Prescription drugs are profoundly affecting today’s youth and it’s something that is not often thought about. Prescription drug abuse and misuse is defined as using a prescription drug in a way not originally prescribed by the doctor or using one without a prescription altogether. Nationally, close to 6,000 youth reported using prescription pain relievers without a doctor’s prescription in 2014 . “Prescription drug abuse and misuse can affect a teen’s judgement and behavior just like other drug; it can put them more at risk for sexually transmitted diseases, abuse of other drugs and the engagement of other risky behaviors, stated Lynsi Mayfield, Red Rock Regional Prevention Coordinator Director.”
