Taps sounded today on a cold and windy hill at the edge of this community and a native son was laid to rest with full military honors. But this occasion held special meaning for two reasons. First, Sgt. Bedford Lee Drinnon was this community’s first casualty in the Southeast Asian War. Second, and most important was the kind of young man Bedford was. He was raised in a home that stressed the value of hard work, thrift, honesty, loyalty, patriotism, and love, and he learned these lessons as well.
