Black Kettle National Grassland to Implement Prescribed Fire

Cheyenne, OK, January 9, 2024 – The Black Kettle National Grassland is planning to conduct several prescribed fires on National Grassland units in Roger Mills County between January 15th and April 15th, 2024. Prescribed burns will only be conducted when weather conditions are favorable. The objectives of these burns will be to reduce fuel loading to minimize the risk of large fires in the future, enhance grazing distribution, improve wildlife habitat, manage shinnery oak, and reduce Eastern red cedar.
