As a baby and young child, Debbie lived with her parents in Allison, Canadian and Farwell while her dad was in training with the ASCS. Debbie started first grade in Panhandle and attended through part of her sixth grade year while her dad was the ASCS office manager for Carson County. Part way through her sixth grade year, the family moved to Wheeler where her dad was the office manager for Wheeler County until he retired. In 1965, the family moved to Allison, where her dad and brothers, Terry and Johnny, worked part-time on their family farm. Debbie enjoyed attending school at Allison where she participated in basketball and volleyball. She and her best friend, Suzanne Lohberger, were Co-Salutatorians of the Class of 1970. After graduating, she attended Southwestern Oklahoma College and West Texas University. She took time out of school and married George Markham at Wheeler on February 5, 1975. They made their home on the farm in Allison. This union was blessed with three children: Bryan, Monty and Hayley. George passed away on June 2, 1980. As a result, Debbie went back to college at Southwestern Oklahoma University where she was listed in “Who’s Who in American Universities and Colleges.” Debbie met and married Tim Jones on December 27, 1990. She then graduated Suma Cum Laude in May of 1991 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. That Fall, Debbie interviewed and got the first grade teaching position at Reydon, OK. She loved teaching and was in first grade for 22 years. An opening in second grade gave her the opportunity to teach that level for four additional years. Due to health issues, Debbie retired from Reydon Elementary after 26 years of service in May of 2017.
Her favorite activities after retiring included watching her grandchildren participate in the following: football, basketball, baseball, track, dance, band, 4-H, FFA, and academic contests. Debbie was a member of the Wheeler Area Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Markham on June 2, 1980, her father, Louis Grayson on February 15, 1994, and her brother, Terry Grayson on January 27, 1996.
