Frankie Larue Cockrell 1943 ~ 2021

Frankie Larue (Dodson) Cockrell was born November 1, 1943 at Elk City, Oklahoma to Frank Washington Dodson and Hazel Larue (Thomas) Dodson. She passed away Monday, August 9, 2021 at her home near Durham, Oklahoma at the age of 77 years, 9 months and 8 days.

Frankie grew up in the Herring and Dempsey communities and attended school at Reydon, Oklahoma where she graduated in 1961. Frankie then furthered her education at Sayre Jr. College. She met Glen Leroy Cockrell and they were married on August 13, 1963, at the Methodist Church in Elk City, Oklahoma. They lived in Reydon while Glen taught school and Frankie worked at the Reydon Grocery Store. The couple welcomed two sons, Timmy Lynn Cockrell and Jerry Wayne Cockrell. The family moved to Durham in 1973 where they engaged in farming, ranching and custom combining. Frankie attended the Reydon Methodist Church and later became a member of the Crawford Magnolia Church and served as church pianist. Frankie began her employment with Security State Bank in Cheyenne, Oklahoma around 1975 and retired after 34 years. Frankie and Glen had been married over 54 years at the time Glen passed away on February 28, 2018. Frankie enjoyed playing the piano, gardening, shopping for bargains, sewing and quilting with the Durham Quilting Bees; and keeping in touch with family and friends by phone. Frankie was known to keep an immaculate house and enjoy a Dr. Pepper or two every day. She was very proud of her Native American heritage being a member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation.

Along with her parents, Frankie was preceded in death by her husband. Frankie is survived by her two sons, Timmy Lynn Cockrell and Jerry Wayne Cockrell and wife, Kimberly all of Durham, OK; 3 granddaughters, Kylee Renee’ Dellinger and husband, Robert, Durant, OK, Kyra Jo Travis, Elk City, OK and Ashton Paige Cockrell, Weatherford, OK; 1 great granddaughter, Cadence Renee’ Norseworthy, Durant, OK; one sister, Wanda Bachmann and husband, J.G.; 2 sisters-in-law, Yvonne Cockrell and Melba Higgins and a host of other relatives and friends. The family request memorial donations be made to one of the following organizations in Frankie’s name.
