Glen Gail Wilhite, Sr. 1949 ~ 2020

Glen Gail Wilhite, Sr. was born in Sayre, OK to Rudolph and Helen (Hildebrand) Wilhite on March 20, 1949. He went to be with his Savior on November 1, 2020. Gail grew up on the family farm outside of Cheyenne, OK, where he ran the riverbanks with his little brother, Larry. He caused havoc with his .22 and his beloved horse, Sonny Boy, and his trusty dog, Toy. Those were some of his happiest days.

After high school, Gail lost a bet to a few of his friends which landed him a job at the Seiling Police Department. He went on to work for both Dewey and Roger Mills County Sheriff’s Offices through the 1970s. In the early 1980s, he owned his own oilfield security company in Elk City, OK before returning home to Cheyenne to serve as the City Foreman and Water Superintendent from 1984 to 1991. The law enforcement bug was not fully out of his system, and he joined the Canton, OK Police Department in 1991, and later Blaine County Sheriff’s Office. He officially left law enforcement in 1996. Since that time, he has worked as a truck driver before retiring in 2020.

Gail touched many lives through his public service. He served as a father figure to many young people through the years, and anyone who knew Gail knew he loved his family. He married the love of his life, Patty (Beaty)—after the third time asking her—at the First Baptist Church in Elk City, OK, on June 7, 1983, and is the father to five children: Glen Gail, Chris, Pam, Samantha, and Tanya. Watching them grow and start their own families was the joy of his life because as much as he liked being a father, he really loved being a grandpa.

He is preceded in death by both of his parents; his infant brother Roger Dale; and his little brother and best friend, Larry Wayne. He is survived by his wife Patty of the home; children: Glen Gail, Jr. (Christy) of Cordell, OK; Pamela (J.P.) of Minco, OK; Christopher, Sr. (Robin) of Cheyenne, OK; Samantha (Chad) of Olustee, OK; and Tanya of Dallas, TX; 12 grandchildren: Matthew (Evin); Rachel Dawn; Wesley; Melissa (Ernie); Garrett (Alyssa); Christopher Jr. (Chelsea); Caleb (Kylie); Savannah (Levi); Emily (Austin); Bo; Laney; and Apple; and 24 great grandchildren; sisters Mardell Presley and Michelle Wolf; sisters-in-law Judi Parris and Reda Wilson; bonus sister Julie Boucher and bonus daughter Raeonna (Michael); and a host of nieces and nephews.

Services will be officiated by Pastor Travis Howerton at Canton Christian Church in Canton, OK, on Friday, November 6, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Eagle City Cemetery in Eagle City, OK. We respectfully ask for those attending to please wear a mask and practice social distancing guidelines. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the family at Cornerstone Bank in Watonga, OK.
