Historic Church in Butler Burns

Fire crews from Butler, Leedey, Hammon, Custer City, Clinton and Weatherford battled a church fire near Butler on Thursday, February 27, 2024. The historic German Free Will Baptist Church was a complete loss and approximately 90 acres of grass was burned before firemen had it under control. There were no injuries reported, and the building was empty when the fire started. The original church was built in 1901 and the current building was built in 1960. Regular church services stopped in 2015. Plans are already underway for a monument honoring the church, using the steeple that was saved as part…
