Jackie Lee “Jack” Brown was born September 11th, 1936 in Grimes, Oklahoma to Edith Fern (Barker) and Ira Lee “Pud” Brown. He passed away Sunday, September 26th, 2021 at Elk City, Oklahoma at the age of 85 years and 15 days.
Jack grew up in Grimes, Oklahoma and graduated from Sweetwater High School in 1953. He furthered his education at Sayre Junior College where he played baseball for 2 years. He transferred to Panhandle State University in Goodwell, Oklahoma where he participated on the judging team and continued the required courses for his degree. He completed his bachelors degree at Oklahoma A&M University and obtained a teaching position at Noble, Oklahoma.
It was during this time he was married to Clara “Jo” (Taylor) Brown on August 24, 1957. While employed with Noble schools, Jack was instrumental in starting the wrestling team and also coached baseball. He spent one year as counselor at Wayne Vo-Tech schools before moving back to the Grimes/Sunny Point area where he began teaching science at Cheyenne Public Schools in 1973. Jack was employed with Sayre Public Schools in 1975 as a science teacher and also a counselor until his retirement in 1987. All throughout his teaching career, Jack was a rancher at heart and owned, raised and enjoyed checking cattle. In what spare time he had he enjoyed watching OSU sports and was also a member of the Roger Mills Cattleman’s Association and the Sweetwater Fire Department.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jo and his brother, Richard Brown.
Jack is survived by his son, Kent Brown and wife, Carrie, Sayre, OK; daughter, Konna Summers and husband, Tony, Reydon, OK; 3 grandchildren, Marissa Brown and partner, Casey McBeath, Shreveport, LA, Hadleigh Summers and fiance`, Payton Day, Sweetwater, Ok and Devin Brown, Weatherford, OK and a host of other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations be made to Sweetwater Fire Department, P.O. Box 57, Sweetwater, OK 73666. Graveside services will be held Friday, October 1, 2021 at 10:00 A.M. at Lone Oak Cemetery officiated by Bro. Ron Henning.
