Jessie Lorene Long Kauk, daughter of James Marshall and Tenie Owens Long was born September 20, 1923 on a farm one mile East of Rhea, Ok., the youngest of 9 children. She departed this life on August 13th, 2022 at the age of 98 years, 10 months, and 23 days.
Jessie attended school at Rhea and Leedey. Upon graduation from Leedey Highschool in 1941, she lived with her sister in Oregon and attended business school, and was employed the Farm Security Administration at Redmond, St. Helens, and Albany Oregon. On December 10, 1944, she enlisted in the WAVES (USNR), attended boot camp in the Bronx, New York, and was stationed at the USN Advanced Training Depot, San Bruno, California in the personnel department. She received her discharge at the close of WWII in Memphis, Tenn. On February 2, 1946.
On April 21, 1946 Roy Kauk and Jessie were married at the Baptist Parsonage in Leedey, Ok and resided at their home 5 miles South of Rhea, Ok. for 65 years until Roy’s passing. She then moved to Baptist Village in Elk City. This marriage was blessed with two sons, Michael Roy, born January 25, 1949, and Mitchell Kurt born September 21, 1961. In 1967, Jessie became employed at Clinton Sherman Air Force Base in Burns Flat, Ok. Upon it’s closure in 1972, she was employed in Clinton, Ok. at Dept. of Rehabilitative Services, Soil Conservation Service, and Farmers Home Administration, retiring in June 1986.
Jessie was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Leedey, the American Legion, and co-chairman of the Veterans Memorial built in the Leedey City Park. She loved to work in her flowers, crochet, and fish.
She was proceeded in death by her husband Roy Kauk, her parents James Marshall and Tenie Long. Four brothers; David J, Walter M, Jacob E (Ted), and Olive L Long. Four sisters; Edith Tullis, Lula Long, Helen Burford, Audrey Robertson, and daughter-in-law Sharla Kauk.
Left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Michael R and wife Terry Lynn of Butler, Ok, and Mitchell K of Leedey, Ok. Five grandsons; Michael Lynn Kauk and wife Serena of Owasso, Ok, Shane Kauk of Butler, Ok, Kacy Kauk and wife Lana of Butler, Ok, Ross Kauk and wife Rachel of Leedey, Ok, Brad Kauk of Weatherford, Ok. Great grandchildren, Kirsten, Kurt, Chantelle, Camden, Casen, Sophie, Grayson, and Maddie, and one great-great granddaughter Bella. Nieces Vynetta Walker and Linda Jameson, great and grand great nieces and nephews, relatives, and friends.
