Jo Ann Hepner 1929 ~ 2022

Jo Ann (Bull) Hepner was born July 14, 1929 at Crawford, Oklahoma and on June 15, 2022, after a brief illness, passed away in Austin, Tx surrounded by her two daughters, Songa and Chelita, and her granddaughter, Kelly.

Jo was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Ice Bull, her sister Bennie Williams, and her husband Davy Hepner. To her great grandchildren, she was Granny Jo and to many others, she was Miss Jo. All will remember her as that tiny little lady with a lot of spunk. Jo had a wonderful and varied life starting out on a farm near the small community of Crawford, Oklahoma where she developed her deep love of animals and the outdoors. In high school, she enjoyed playing basketball, a sport she continued to follow closely throughout her life. During professional basketball season, she was always home in time to see the games. Jo was an accomplished pianist and, like everything else in her life, she attacked the keyboard with her trademark vigor. She always kept a piano or keyboard wherever she lived and loved to play the “old tunes”.

Jo was active professionally throughout her life. In her early years, she was a beautician and owned her own beauty shop in Cheyenne, Oklahoma. Her dream, however, was to be a nurse and she followed that career for the remainder of her professional life. Her last few years as a nurse were especially rewarding to her in working with special needs children. After retirement, she and her husband, Davy traveled often. When they weren’t traveling, she was continually expanding the flowers and plants in her garden. Jo’s last five years were spent at the Ledgestone Senior Living Community where she remained active and enjoyed being with new friends.

Jo was a member of the Church of the First Born and, inspired by her mother, had a strong faith in God.

Jo is survived by her three children, Songa Ploeger of Kyle, Tx, Chelita Riley of Johnson City, Tx, Warren Newell of Elk City, Okla, two granddaughters, Jacqueline Aaron of Weatherford, Okla and Kelly Ruiz of Austin, Tx, four great grandchildren, Logan Lasley of Weatherford, Okla, Jayden Langley of Ada, Okla, and Roberto Ruiz III and Samuel Ruiz of Austin, Tx, and one nephew, John Williams, and one niece, Suzy Thomas as well as many who she made feel a part of her family. Jo will be missed by many friends at Ledgestone Senior Community.

A celebration of life and memorial service will be held at Ledgestone on Jo’s birthdate, July 14, 2022 at 2pm.

Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. John 8:12
