Joyce Katherine “Kate” McDaniel was born August 24th, 1927 on the family farm north of Berlin, Oklahoma to Inez (Hussey) and Oscar Leggitt. She passed away Monday, February 22nd, 2021 at Sayre, Oklahoma at the age of 93 years, 5 months and 29 days.
Kate grew up in the Berlin and Rose Hill communities and attended school in Berlin graduating in 1945. Shortly after her graduation she was married to William Carl “Jack” McDaniel at Sayre, Oklahoma on June 9th, 1946. They made their home in Crawford, Oklahoma and in 1950 started their own dairy. Together they continued the dairy operation until 1971 when they retired. Kate began taking art lessons and took up painting western landscapes. Her work can still be seen to this day at the Security State Bank in Cheyenne. She also filled her time working at the Crawford Post Office in the 1980’s. Kate served on the Roger Mills Election Board, was a member of the Home Demonstration Club and was a faithful member of the Magnolia Baptist Church for 67 years.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Vickie Clark Mc- Daniel; one great granddaughter, Josie McIntyre; four sisters and one brother. Kate is survived by her son, Mark McDaniel and wife, Sue, Elk City, OK; four grandchildren, Joseph McDaniel and wife, Kassi, Cheyenne, OK, Thomas McDaniel and wife, Marisha, Crawford, OK, Jimmy McDaniel and wife, Bethany, Cheyenne, Ok and Jennifer McIntyre and husband, Marshall, Dempsey, OK; ten great grandchildren, Dedra, Halleigh, Jackson, Kaylee, Kylee, Charlie, Elizabeth, Luke, Lauren and Blake; one sister, Mae Finney, Denver, CO and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
