Juanita Mae Ommen 1928 ~ 2021

Juanita Mae Gamble Ommen was born on June 21, 1928 to Clifford Charles Gamble and Laura Virginia Touchstone Gamble in rural Custer County near Butler, Oklahoma and parted from this life on August 21, 2021 in Woodward, Oklahoma.

Juanita was the second of three girls born to Cliff and Laura. Her childhood was spent going back and forth from Oklahoma to California with her parents to work picking fruit and vegetables.

One Sunday afternoon at a baseball game in Johnnysville she was introduced to a young man who had been away serving his country during WWII. Juanita’s mother and his mother had decided that they would be a good match for each other and they were right! Oscar and Juanita were married on July 26, 1946. They set up housekeeping near Rhea, Oklahoma and were blessed with four children: Gary Don, Oscar Dwight, Roger Lynn and Dianne Renee.

Tragically, Gary and Dwight drowned in a farm pond in January 1957. With their strong faith in God and the love and support of family and friends, Oscar and Juanita were able to survive this sad event and in 1960 they moved to the farm east of Leedey. They moved into Leedey in 1977 and lived there together until Oscar’s death in 1990. Juanita continued to live in Leedey until 2018 when she moved into Providence Place in Woodward and resided there until her death. She received excellent care there, made lots of new friends and always said “It’s not home, but it’s the next best thing.”

Juanita was a very talented seamstress and also was very skilled at quilting, cross stitching, embroidery, crocheting and oil painting. She enjoyed going to Clinton to the Jamboree with her friends and made many trips to Branson, went on a cruise to Alaska, visited new England and traveled to Hawaii with her sisters twice. But most of all she loved being with her family and especially loved visits from her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Juanita accepted Jesus as her Savior and was baptized when she was a young girl. She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Leedey for many years. Even after moving to Woodward her church family continued to stay in contact with her through visits, phone calls and prayers.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Cliff and Laura Gamble, her husband Oscar, her sons Gary and Dwight, her sisters Lorene Ommen Vidana and Charlene Long, her step mother Gwen Gamble, her father and mother-in-law Henry and Mary Ommen and her special friend Jack Stalcup.

She is survived by her son Roger and his wife Linda of Leedey, her daughter Dianne and her husband Johnny of Buffalo, four grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins and many dear friends.

Memorials may be made to the Leedey Health Clinic in care of Shaw Funeral Home, P.O. Box 276, Vici, OK 73859. Shaw Funeral Home of Leedey Services were held Thursday August 26, 2021 at 10:00 am at the First Baptist Church, Leedey, OK and burial following service at the German Reformed Cemetery, Custer County, OK.
