Larry Baker, 83, of Pampa, passed away on November 8, 2023 in Pampa.
Services were held Friday, November 10, 2023 at Central Baptist Church with Rev. Norman Rushing, pastor, and Rev. Rick Parnell, retired minister, officiating. Burial followed in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.
Larry was born February 5, 1940 in Wheeler to Verbon “Chuck” and Marie Baker. He graduated from Reydon High School in 1958. On July 30, 1960, he married the love of his life, Deanna Good in Clayton, New Mexico. They celebrated 62 years of marriage before she passed away in 2022. Deanna and Larry owned and operated Baker’s Western Specialty in Liberal, Kansas, before moving to Pampa in 1979. He opened Larry Baker Plumbing, Heating, and Air Conditioning in 1988. He was in the plumbing industry for over 70 years. He was a long-time member of the Pampa Lions Club, serving a term as President. Larry also served on the Top O’ Texas Rodeo Association board of directors for many years and the Chamber of Commerce Gold Coats. He was a very faithful member of Central Baptist Church for many years.
Larry loved the outdoors and anything to do with horses. For many years he enjoyed trail rides and team penning. On his 75th birthday, Larry went on a 10-day trail ride in the Grand Canyon. He also loved going to rodeos, Larry has never missed an NFR. He loved his family and was always supported in all of their activities.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bobbie Baker and David Baker; and son-in-law, Steve King Survivors include his three daughters, Kimberly King and Bill Thomason of Mustang, Oklahoma, Kelli Weaver and husband Rodney of Amarillo, and Kayla Parnell and husband Kyle of Pampa; brother, Dwayne Baker and wife Bobbie Sue of Elk City, Oklahoma; sister, Phillis Oquin and husband Rick of Perryton; brother-in-law, Gene Good of The Woodlands; 4 granddaughters, Kaylee Mangus and husband Josh of Newcastle, Oklahoma, Kirby Pantoja and husband Brian of Amarillo, Kara Weaver of Amarillo, and Karson Scarlett and husband Zachary of Pampa; grandson, Ky Parnell of Pampa; 2 great grandsons, Logan Mangus and Lucas Mangus; great granddaughter, Blaize Scarlett; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
