Last Thursday night, a group of students from Leedey School and their teachers took a trip to the Civic Center for a unique rendezvous with “To Kill a Mockingbird.” They had taken a deep dive into the book during their English class, and this live experience was the grand finale.
The stage adaptation brought the classic story to life in ways their textbooks couldn’t. Characters and themes they’d dissected in class became tangible, and the impact was real.
After the show, they had some conversations with their teachers about justice, prejudice and the relevance of it all today. It was pretty cool to see how the book they read turned into something that made them think long after the curtain closed. The trip was sponsored by the Leedey Education Foundation.
