Maxine Juanita Wright was born February 15, 1926 in Duke, Oklahoma. Her parents were Nancy Evaline (Lawson) and Willis Andrew Amend. She passed away Saturday, September 12th, 2020 at Sayre, Oklahoma at the age of 94 years, 6 months and 28 days.
Maxine grew up around the Crawford and Reydon areas and attended school at Crawford and Midway. She was married to James Edwards and started her family with the birth of her son, Jimmie. She was later married to Henry James “H.J.” Wright at Wheeler, Texas on April 29, 1948. Together they made their home in Reydon and Guthrie, Oklahoma. During this time Maxine worked alongside H.J. moving houses and even obtained her chauffeur license and drove the trucks. On the farm you would see her driving the tractors or feeding the cattle all the while taking care of their home. Maxine was well known for her cooking skills and would make egg sandwiches bright and early for all the hunters to start out with and then have a big meal on the table waiting when they returned for lunch.
Having placed her membership at Reydon First Baptist Church in 1939, she remained active in church and held positions as the church secretary and clerk for many years. Maxine was also active in the Reydon Home Extension and American Legion Woman’s Auxiliary. In the early 90’s she started caring for H.J. during his failing health and continued until his death in November of 1997. Maxine remained on the family farm and continued to be active in the church and even helped start the Wednesday Night Kids program. She would spend hours writing and sending prayer letter for the church. In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting, reading and especially reading her Bible, cooking for her family and funeral dinners and not only enjoyed, but cherished spending time with her family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, H.J. and one grandson, J.D. Wright and one great granddaughter, Macy Lou Sadler.
