After the LIFE publication, Augusta’s recognition from individuals and exhibitions grew tremendously. She was commissioned to paint an exhibit for Shamrock, Texas, a painting of a championship horse, and even a watercolor painting for Callie Jane Maschal who was a cousin to Gene Autry! In addition to her artist duties, life on the farm continued. Growing and harvesting crops, milking the dairy cows and keeping the sawmill running are just a few of the numerous tasks that had to be completed on the Break O’ Day farmstead.
