Augusta worked hard for her recognition. She had entered pieces into fairs, sent handwritten correspondence and even bartered with her paintings. She was a self-taught artist and she carved out her own place in the art world. Augusta was set apart from other self-taught artists due to the fact she painted from memory and had no formal training.
