Augusta moved to the present homestead site when she was 12 years old. Her father had heard that there was still land available. After making a trip here to view the area, he was pleasantly surprised to find how much of it was viable. He knew that this land would provide support for farming and ranching. He, alongside his son Howard, claimed acreage and started to build a picket house. Shortly after, the men traveled back, loaded up their family’s belongings and relocated.
