Metcalfe Museum

American Farmers & Ranchers held their annual membership meeting here at our activity center. Ffor several years it was held at the Durham Community Building. Looking over the journals and some of Howard’s writings we find that as early as 1902 and 1903 the Farmers Union sponsored picnics on the Metcalfe property.Farmers Union members were invited to dance on a platform under the shade trees, drink lemonade and have a “big time.” The dance and picnic continued almost yearly for decades to come.
