Oleta Maye Bray 1928 ~ 2022

Oleta Maye (Stoddard) Bray, passed from this life on January 16, 2022 in Clinton, Oklahoma. Oleta was born on November 28, 1928 in Leedey, Oklahoma and resided there her entire 93 years. Oleta was one of four children of Boyd and Lola Stoddard. Oleta attended school at Center Point, Kiowa and Aledo, before graduating at Leedey High School in 1947.

In 1947, Oleta married her high school sweetheart, Doyle Bray, and had three beautiful daughters. Oleta joined Doyle on the homestead, where they raised wheat, cotton, cattle, pigs, chickens, and everything they could to survive. A homemaker and farmer, Oleta was always there to bring dinner to the field or hop on the tractor to help sustain the life she wanted for her family. Oleta enjoyed traveling, quilting, sewing and cooking (where she was known for her delicious pies). When she wasn’t home taking care of the farm, Oleta and Doyle would hook up their fifth wheel and travel across the United States, frequenting some of their favorite places, including Red River, Ruidoso, Phoenix, Missouri, and Colorado.

Oleta was the president of the Aledo Quilting Club and the Women’s Missionary at the Baptist Church. Oleta was baptized in a pond during a revival in Kiowa at age 9, becoming a lifelong member of the Baptist Church, first at Rhea and then Leedey. Oleta’s happiest moments were spending time with her family and friends, visiting and playing either dominos or cards or going to ballgames. Oleta is survived by her daughters Linda D. Laster and husband Frank D. of Leedey, OK, Sue Clark and husband Butch of Chillicothe, MO and Connie Jo Smith and husband Lowry of Leedey, OK; her twin sister Oneta Coleman of Clinton, OK; five grandsons Chris Larson and wife Andrea of Edmond, OK, Chad Hall of Leedey, OK, Brad Dean and wife Jenny of Edmond, OK, Cory Hall of Canyon, TX and Bryan Dean and wife Jessica of Oklahoma City, OK; three step grandsons Randy Smith of Oklahoma City, OK, Brady Smith and wife Chelsea of Oklahoma City, OK and Donny Smith and wife Candy of Leedey, OK; sister-in-law Jackie Bray of Edmond, OK; eleven great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family and a host of friends.

Oleta was preceded in death by her husband Doyle Bray, parents Boyd and Lola Stoddard, Clifford and Lula Bray, sisters and brothersin- laws Doyle and Lorena Taylor and Jimmy and Loretta Kauk, brother-in-law Gene Coleman, brother-inlaw and sister-in-law Joe and Jeannie Craig, brotherin- law Mel Bray.

Memorials may be made to the Leedey Educational Foundation in care of Shaw Funeral Home, P.O. Box 276, Vici, OK 73859. Services were held Thursday January 20, 2022 at 2:00 pm at the Leedey First Baptist Church With burial following at Center Point, Leedey, OK.
