Olive Irene Spurlin 1928-2021

Olive Irene Randall Spurlin was born Sept. 10, 1928 in Altona Township, Okarche, Oklahoma the youngest child of Joseph and Caroline Randall. She graduated from Omega Highschool in May of 1946, and married her husband, Walter K. Spurlin, on October 27th of the same year. They remained married for 74 years and had 13 children together.
The early years of their marriage were spent in Virginia where Walter was stationed in the Navy, later moving to the panhandle of Western Oklahoma and then, for a short time, Colorado. In 1960 they loaded up an old school bus with their eldest 8 children and left Hooker, OK en route to greatest adventure yet: a homestead plot north of Willow, Alaska where they spent their first winter in a “Quonset hut” with no indoor plumbing. They eventually purchased a log house in Sunshine, Alaska where they lived until 1975 when they returned to Reydon, Oklahoma.
Olive was a life-long Christian, a devoted mother and housewife who left behind just shy of 200 living descendants. She is preceded in death by her parents, 11 siblings, her son Paul, a grandson and three great grandsons. She leaves behind her loving husband of 74 years, 12 children, over 50 grand kids, over 100 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and more than 30 great-great grandchildren with more on the way.
Olive passed away peacefully at home on Feb. 5, 2021 at the age of 92 with her beloved husband, Walter, holding her hand. She was a kind, gracious, generous woman who was cherished by her family and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Visitation will be held at Rose Chapel in Sayre, OK prior to Services Feb 17th at 1pm in Reydon, OK in the new gymnasium with grave site to follow at White Rose. Celebration of life to be held in Alaska and Oklahoma in the spring.
