She was raised in Harmon, OK and attended school in Arnett, Oklahoma, graduating from Arnett High School in 1965. She began working in the nursing field while still in high school. Her love of people and helping anyone she could led her to attend Bethany Nazarene College and then graduate from the Baptist School of Nursing with her Registered Nursing degree in 1968. After graduation, she began her nursing career in Shattuck Oklahoma. She married Billy Ross Strickland in April 1969. In May 1970, the couple adopted their daughter, Merlene. Louise continued to make a career in nursing caring for people.

She worked at many hospitals and home health agencies and was Director of Nursing at Roger Mills Memorial Hospital in Cheyenne, Oklahoma for several years. Her nursing career was interrupted by illness in 1990, but she continued to care for family and friends. After the passing of her husband Bill, in 1999 she later met and married James Miller on March 3, 2003 in Corsicana, Texas. They resided there until moving back to Cheyenne, Oklahoma in 2005. They loved road trips, seeing the country, wildlife and being together. She was able to enjoy her dream of living in the country before her passing. Louise is preceded in death by her father, Chance Porter Shahan; mother, Daisy Goldie Shahan; first husband, Billy Ross Strickland.

She is survived by her husband James Miller, of the home; daughter, Merlene Shaw and husband Johnny of Durham, OK; brother, Wayne Shahan and wife, Paula, of Arnett, OK; many cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of other family and friends.
