Prescribed Fires to be implemented at Black Kettle National Grassland

Cheyenne, OK, February 12, 2020 – Fire managers at the Black Kettle National Grassland will conduct prescribed fires on several of the Grassland units sometime between late February and early July, 2020, when weather conditions are favorable. The objectives of these burns will be to reduce fuel loading to minimize the risk of large fires in the future, enhance grazing distribution, improve wildlife habitat, manage shinnery oak, and reduce Eastern red cedar. For any questions, comments, or concerns, please feel free to contact Tom Smeltzer or Matt Lamb at 580-497-2143. Related
