CHEYENNE, Oklahoma: Bring the family and join a Park Ranger at Minnie R. Slief Library for free storytelling & an activity. For the month of March, kids will learn about bluebonnets with the story “The Legend of the Bluebonnets,” a Comanche legend about how a little girl’s sacrifice brought the bluebonnet to Texas.
The accompanying activity is to make a finger-paint bluebonnets. Bluebonnet flowers bloom across Texas and Oklahoma in March and April. The Comanche were a fierce southern plains tribe that lived in northwestern Texas, western Okla- homa, and eastern New Mexico. The Comanche had a similar life- style to the Cheyenne depending on the bison for survival. There was even one Comanche warrior killed at the Battle of the Washita. Future Reading Ranger events will be held the second Saturday and third Thursday of every month.
