CHEYENNE, Oklahoma: Bring the family and join a Park Ranger at Minnie R. Slief Library for free storytelling & an activity. For the month of March, kids will learn about bluebonnets with the story “The Legend of the Bluebonnets,” a Comanche legend about how a little girl’s sacrifice brought the bluebonnet to Texas.

The accompanying activity is to make a finger-paint bluebonnets. Bluebonnet flowers bloom across Texas and Oklahoma in March and April. The Comanche were a fierce southern plains tribe that lived in northwestern Texas, western Okla- homa, and eastern New Mexico. The Comanche had a similar life- style to the Cheyenne depending on the bison for survival. There was even one Comanche warrior killed at the Battle of the Washita.
