Roger Mills 4-H Shooting Sports Results for the Beckham County 4-H Shoot Out Hunger Challenge and SW District Air Rifle Contest

Cheyenne Star – Official Newspaper of Roger Mills County Results from the Roger Mills 4-H Shooting Sports teams competing at the SW District Air Rifle and Beckham County 4- H Shoot Out Hunger Challenge.

The Roger Mills Shooting Sports Air Rifle members recently competed at the SW District Jackson County Air Rifle Contest with Jessiah Hutcherson placing Champion and Cleat Ivey Res. Champion senior 4-H. Roger Mills 4-H Shotgun Shooting Sports team of Jayden Smith, Jessiah Hutcherson, Brent Ivey, Cleat Ivey, Jacob Leverett and Connor Meacham competed in the first ever Beckham County Shootout Hunger Challenge Trap and Skeet Fun Shoot and Food Drive.

The contestants shoot 25 targets of skeet and 25 trap targets the entry fee was $12.00 plus in can goods that were gathered and donated to area food banks. The contest goals were to get the member together with other shooting sports team for fun and a good cause food drive and it was a great success.

Connor Meacham placed 2nd junior trap in a tie breaker for first and was second combined Jr. Trap and Skeet. Jayden Smith tied for top Sr. trap shooter at 24 but lost the tiebreaker with his first miss at #5, the other kid missed his 14th. Roger Mills 4-H Shooting Sports team placed Reserve Champion Combined team and Reserve Champion Trap and Skeet teams.

The team was awarded $300.00 ($50.00 per shooter) in prize money to donate to a food bank. The Roger Mills County Farm Bureau is matching the donation which will be given to the GFWC-OK Cheyenne Sorosis Club County Wide Christmas Baskets. A big thanks goes out to Beckham County 4-H and Scholastic Volunteer leaders Monty Tucker and Paul Hightower for a fun contest and food/toy drive. The first ever Beckham Co 4-H Shoot Out Hunger Challenge was big success for our local food banks. They had a good turnout of 28 shooters and handed out lots of trophies. Youth contestant from all over western Ok accumulated this big pile of food as their entry fees.

We want to give big thanks to the sponsors that totaled $3000.00 in donations to further help our communities this Christmas with a hardy meal for those in need.
