Sarah Barbara Dodson 1944 ~ 2021

Sarah Barbara Dodson was born January 30, 1944 to William and Sarah Broadbent in Clinton, OK. She went to be with her Lord and Savior from her home in Nowata, OK on October 1, 2021. She was preceded in death by both parents, 2 brothers, Billy Joe Broadbent and Floyd Broadbent, 1 grandson, Montana Dodson, and 3 nephews, Tracy Broadbent, Troy Broadbent, and Alan Broadbent. Left to cherish her memory, her husband of 60 years, Earl Dodson, her daughter, Sabra Pierce & husband Don, of Nowata, her son Nick Dodson & wife Leslie, of Blue Ridge, TX, and grandchildren Lacy, Gentry, Montgomery, Taw, Karleigh, Deja, Lexi, Gage, Jayden, and Skye & a host of great-grandchildren.

Barbara held a few different careers throughout her lifetime, starting her young adult life as a cosmetologist and a stay-at-home mom until she and her family made a final relocation to the Nowata area in the mid 1970’s where she went to work with the United States postal service until her retirement in 2004.

She was the friendly face in the window every time you had to make that stop at the post office. Barbara literally never met a stranger. She had a bright smile and a kind word for all people at all times.

To her children, she was a champion, a warrior, a cheerleader, and a friend. She was Mom. She made everything fun and adventurous! To her husband, she was his favorite dance partner, his lighter side, the love of his life!

To her grandchildren, she was the world! She was fun. She was silly. And, she was ALWAYS available. She got into the details of their lives and lived all the special moments along with them through the baby and toddler years to the busy teenage years to young adulthood and well beyond.

Barbara’s life can be summed up in one word: LOVE. Pure, unassuming, playful, unconditional and rare love. She was so proud of her family. She knew it, they knew it and, most of the time, the rest of the world knew it! She was not shy about bragging on any of her kids.

Barbara lived fully in the moment. She loved much and received much love in return. And, now she is living in the fullness of glory face to face with the One who is Love.

On behalf of the Earl Dodson family, a special thank you goes out to Good Shepherd Hospice nursing staff as well as some really special ladies who took uniquely wonderful care of Miss Barbara in some of her hardest months: Anna Hill, Donna Hurley, Penny Alspach, Edwina Robinson, Donna Foster, and Maudie Crawford, and longtime special friend Bobbie Moore.

Service were held at Nowata First Church Of God on Wednesday October 6,2021 and burial followed at Nowata Memorial Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
