Shirley Ray Allen 1937 ~ 2022

Shirley Ray Allen was born January 24th, 1937 at Reydon, Oklahoma to Joe Lee Cole and Odeca Irene (Morton) Cole. She passed away Wednesday, August 24th, 2022 at Elk City, Oklahoma at the age of 85 years and 7 months.

Shir ley at tended Hammon and Cheyenne schools and later obtained her GED. She worked various jobs during her lifetime, such as Cheyenne Motel and Election Board. Shirley enjoyed the time at Sandies Flower Garden making flowers. She taught at Cheyenne Head Start and was always involved in many hobbies including crocheting, quilting, softball and playing in pool leagues. Shirley took painting lessons from Erma Lee Burns and Harold Scott and loved painting and was in a ladies bowling league competing all over the United States. She also kept time for the Cheyenne Rodeo’s and Ropings. Shirley was a member of the Reydon Community and obtained her associates degree in theology from Triumphant College.

Throughout her life she was married to Leroy Allen and they were blessed with three sons: Gary, Michael, and Keith. Shirley was later married to Harvie Laverne Hartley. Together they enjoyed many years on the farm at Reydon having chickens, growing gardens, riding motorcycles, and listening to Laverne play the piano and other kinds of music.

She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Donald and Billy Cole; her beloved dog, Ruffles.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Laverne Hartley; three sons, Gary Allen and wife, Sondra, Michael Allen, and Keith Allen and wife, Mary; ten grandchildren; four great grandchildren; motherin- law, Marcella Couch; sisters-in-law, Ladonna Plemons and husband, Dennis, Brenda Hartley, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Services were held Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at the Reydon Community Center under the direction of Chris Whinery and the staff of Affordable Cremation Service- West. Condolences can be made online at ww. classicfunerals.com
