Vic Wayne McCallay 1962 ~ 2024

Victor Wayne Mc- Callay, 61, of Hammon, Oklahoma was born on January 30, 1962 in Altus, Oklahoma. He is the son of Irvan Junior and Betty Jean (McElwee) McCallay. Vic went to ride the Heavenly trails on Friday, January 19, 2024 at his residence in Hammon, Oklahoma.

He graduated Southwestern Oklahoma State University with a teaching degree. Vic taught history, government and geography at the Hammon Public School District from 1985 to 2014, when he retired. He was a role model for every student that he taught. In summers when he was not teaching Vic worked at the Hammon Elevator. Vic was also a member of the Hammon School Board for many years. After his retirement from teaching school, he worked as a road grader operator for Roger Mills County.

Vic enjoyed visiting museums and he would annually visit the Black Kettle Museum. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, loved horseback trail rides, traveling, camping, the mountains and the plains. Vic immersed himself in history via reading and reenactment with family and friends. He loved spending time with his grandson, Kellen along with his children and family. Vic loved horses and working with them. In his spare time he would work as a farrier. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Vic was a member of the Roger Mills County Cattleman’s Association and the Roger Mills County EMS Board. He was also a member of the Order of the Indian Wars. Vic attended Community Fellowship in Hammon, Oklahoma.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 27, 2024 at the A.G. (Buck) Creek Jr Auditorium, Hammon, Oklahoma. Dolan Ivey will officiate. Interment will be at Kiowa Cemetery, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma. Services have been entrusted to the care of Richard and Tammy Dugger and the staff of Martin-Dugger Funeral Home in Elk City, Oklahoma. Cherishing his memory is his fiancé, Amy Gaddis of Tulsa, Oklahoma; two sons, Riley William Mc- Callay and his partner, Terry Smith of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Ross Tucker McCallay and his wife, Karissa of Weatherford, Oklahoma; mother of the boys, Kelly Montgomery of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; one grandson, Kellen Mc- Callay of Weatherford, Oklahoma, six brothers, Ronnie McCallay of Colorado, Billy David McCallay of Altus, Oklahoma, Jeff McCallay of California, Sam Mc- Callay of Nebraska, Leo McCallay of Arizona, and Jim McCallay of Altus, Oklahoma; four sisters, Barbara Ross of Hollis, Oklahoma, Marlene Struck of Altus, Oklahoma, Juanita Cole of Hollis, Oklahoma, Mary Morse of Olustee, Oklahoma; plus numerous other nephews, nieces and family members.

Vic is preceded in death by his parents, Irvan and Betty McCallay.
