A new report by the Department of Commerce, and derived from the Survey of International Air Travelers, surveyed overseas visitors to national parks. In 2018, there were 39,883,361 overseas visitors to the United States – meaning not from Canada and Mexico. 34.1% report that they “visited a national park or monument,” which would be roughly 13.6M. Visiting national parks/monuments is the 3rd most popular activity for overseas visitors overall, behind shopping and sightseeing. Please note there are some limitations of this survey.
